ABOUT
Evie Liu is a data/visual journalist with a focus on business and financial news. She loves telling stories in every traditional and non-traditional way and exploring the exciting combinations of data, design and solid reporting.
She currently works at financial and investment magazine Barron’s. Proficient in reading a 10K report as well as crunching numbers on the Bloomberg Terminal, she's covered everything from company strategies, global economy, to new trends in the financial services industry. Specifically, she writes a weekly column about quantitative investing, deciphering hard-to-understand concepts and algorithms behind the closed door.
As someone skilled in visual storytelling, Evie has produced infographics, interactive projects, maps, and animated videos to accompany her reporting on complicated topics. She's:
-
Analyzed the impact of the Amazon-Whole Food marriage through census data;
-
Explained the tariff strategy behind the U.S.-China trade war through import and export data;
-
Visualized the big reclassification of media and tech stocks such as Facebook and Netflix that shook up the market in 2018;
-
Dived deep into Hollywood’s movie-releasing strategy and the Oscars;
-
Explored how labor automation will affect each of the 300 American cities in different ways.

Earlier in her career, Evie has spent some time at the New York Daily News, Southern California Public Radio in Los Angeles, and CNN in Hong Kong.
She participated in the Daily News’ 2017 Pulitzer-winning investigation on police eviction, and many other enterprise projects on education disparity, public safety, and the 2016 presidential election.
Evie has a Master's degree in journalism from University of Southern California and majored in economics and German language in college.
Besides work, she plays dodgeball and listens to K-pop.
