The Night Flight

Big data reveals late night TV’s most frequent flyers

I scraped over 16,000 episodes of data for five of America’s major late night talk shows from IMDb, covering 50 years-worth of records. The data were cleaned, analyzed, restructured, and imported into relational database. I then built the interactive application illustrating the frequency of appearance through the size of each guest’s headshot: The bigger the photo is, the more someone has appeared on the show. Readers can also filter through different hosts or click on any of the guests to read more about them.
